It’s nice to keep up to date with current affairs and international news stories, and this blog will do exactly that. As many of us have already heard, and seen the images from the Met Gala flooding through our social feeds, but what else has happened this week? It’s been a busy week for fashion, and we’re here to fill you in on all the latest fashion news and events, celebrity style, fashion week updates, and culture reviews.
The Met Gala Returns
Finally, we have seen the return of the Met Gala after the event was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. It returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with the theme, ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. The theme prompted guests to think about American independence, and the expression of identity, style, and politics of America Culture - and it did not disappoint.
The event was co-hosted by actor Timothée Chalamat, poet Amanda Gorman, tennis champion Naomi Osaka and singer Billie Eilish, and saw many famous faces among the attendees. Some celebs took a literal approach to the theme; Debbie Harry was patriotic by incorporating the American flag into her Zac Posen-designed dress and Gigi Hadid was giving major Jessica Rabbit vibes in a Prada dress.
Whereas others made a more political statement, Cara Delevingne’s outfit shared the statement ‘peg the patriarchy’, standing up for women empowerment and gender equality, and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez wore a white dress by Brother Vellies, with a message saying ‘tax the rich’ across the back. A clever statement to display at an exclusive, luxury fashion event.
