Luxury designer Balenciaga has wowed us all again with another pop-culture collaboration. For its Spring Summer 2022 collection, the fashion house has collaborated with The Simpsons by creating a short film that was displayed at their fake red carpet event.
The event was hosted at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, on 2nd October to celebrate the return of physical runway shows. The event was held in a tented space with a red carpet and complete with paparazzi to shoot the new looks. The red carpet led to the auditorium where The Simpsons film was played.

The attendees of the event included a mixture of celebrities, models, and friends of the brand, many of who wore looks from the new Spring Summer 2022 collection. After being ushered into their seat for the premiere, the guests then realised their trip down the red carpet was the official runway show.
Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, told Vogue he’d wanted to do a premiere concept for a show for many seasons; there was no better time to do it than post-pandemic.
"It was nice to have a social occasion again. I hoped it would make people smile."

The mini-film of The Simpsons told the story of Homer contacting Balenciaga to request they sent a branded item or ‘piece of cloth with a tag’ to celebrate his ‘fashion-deprived’ wife’s birthday. The episode is as self-aware as Zoolander 2 but much more entertaining, and complete with drawings of Smithers and Chief Wiggum in full Balenciaga.
The fashion house’s employees were animated wearing full old seasons of Balenciaga designs. Gvasalia was featured visiting Springfield to fly the citizens to Paris for a fashion show. Homer Simpson was wearing a red oversized sports jacket from Spring Summer 2020, Marge appeared in a gold-foiled gown also from their Spring Summer 2020 show, and Moe was dressed in Spring Summer 2017, among Simpson-style animations of celebrities like Justin Bieber and Kanye West.

This Spring Summer 2022 show intended to challenge the typical conventions of fashion shows and the collab with The Simpsons marks one of the recent pop-culture partnerships, which has previously involved a collaboration with Fortnite to release a collection of in-game Balenciaga skins with Fortnite branding.
