After two years of restricted shows with small-scale audiences and digital presentations, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is back with a bang and has not disappointed.
The inspiring event commenced on January 24th and ran until the 27th, with the likes of Dior, Valentino, and Chanel on the catwalk schedule and Schiaparelli making its long-awaited Couture Week return. This year’s shows are set to be bigger than ever, with celebrities flocking from across the globe to the French capital despite ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
The SS22 shows brought the usual display of romantic ruffles, bows, and feathers, but amongst this, the designers hit pause on these sweet elements and embraced stripped-back colour palettes and a fresh body-positive outlook. In the thick of the shows, many trends came apparent, from a nostalgic Noughties leg reveal to hyper-embellished Bowie-inspired playsuits, this blog will discuss the biggest trends from the Haute Couture SS22 shows.
Minimalism
Many designers stripped back their couture looks, removing the volume and colour to create super sharp and sleek monotone silhouettes. This was evident across Dior, Schiaparelli, and Fendi. Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, explained why; “At this moment we are learning to understand our fragility, and I think it’s important to transform this into clothes”

The Leg Reveal
After the recent love affair with the Noughties across the fashion industry, the gowns of couture week give their nod to the ongoing trend with the iconic leg reveal. Chanel and Valentino put their best foot forward with a glamorous thigh-high leg flash at fashion week.

Tights
If a thigh-high leg reveal is giving you PTSD from the VMAs, you’ll be pleased to know that 30 deniers are in! The designers of Couture Fashion Week displayed tights of all forms, from chic hold-ups under Valentino minidresses to Dior’s embellished number.

Here Comes the Bride
After COVID-19 ruined many brides’ dreams, Bridalwear is here for the year. The summer of 2022 is a big one for weddings and the catwalk proves this. Any of us would love to see a bride walk down the aisle in one of Schiaparelli’s tuille surrealist confections, or a simply perfect Valentino gown, but for now, we might have to stick to the fashion week photos.
