Primark Tease with the Launch of their New Website

Primark has launched a new website but is yet to offer customers the opportunity to purchase and order online.
Instead, the new website will allow UK shoppers to browse through the stock and check the availability before heading to any of the 191 stores across the country. The company said it would “rather connect the journey between searching online before then shopping in-store”; after the closure of many brick and mortar stores during the pandemic, this is understandable but marginally disappointing for all those expecting an online store.
Primark lost billions in revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic when the restrictions were at their strictest, but the increased demand post-pandemic helped recoup losses. The most recent trading updates show that the sales in the UK for the 16 weeks prior to the 8th January were ahead of the same period of time in the previous year, but still 10% behind pre-pandemic levels.
The website was to be rolled out across each territory it operates in, from clothing to homeware, and the product pages would hold more information and better quality imagery. Giving shoppers the option to search by filtering; colour, size, and fit.
Paul Marchant, Primark’s chief executive, said: “Our customers love the experience of shopping in the stores with the surprises that they pick up - it’s what makes Primark unique”.
He went on to say: “However, we also know they want to browse the latest collections online and be able to check the availability of products, which is what our new website makes possible”.
The new website marks a significant step in the digital industry for Primark, and gives shoppers a new opportunity to explore the store, as well as reaching a new set of customers.
