As a CMO, your job is to be in control of developing a branding strategy for your brand, overseeing the companies product line. Understanding the companies position in the marketplace by utilising new technologies, such as data analytics to determine how the company can stay up to date. Creating and executing marketing strategies to future proof your brand.
While we certainly live in a world where trends change and progress it is also influenced by people's opinions towards change. CMO’s don’t have to immerse themselves in every development in the industry, but being able to identify what will work for your brand and elaborating on that, is much more useful. Make sure that you make time for ongoing professional development, as a commitment to yourself and the brands you steward.
As with any job, it is important to never stop learning, especially in a tech-driven world we are inundated with new ways of doing things. As a CMO you have to commit yourself to learn more. Consider taking courses on new and upcoming technologies that could be useful for your brand and see how they could improve your teams’ marketing capabilities.
As a high-level manager, a CMO’s job is to be keeping an eye on upcoming trends and thinking about how they would work for them. Work this into your schedule, dedicate a day a month for example to fully immerse yourself in the progressing world of marketing as a way to keep your finger on the pulse. This will show your team that you aren’t happy with average and you are constantly looking for new ways to improve and streamline your process.
