How to Have the Best Fashion CV
Looking for a job in the fashion industry? The best place to start is to ensure your CV is up to scratch; something that can seem like a big task. If you want a job in fashion, your CV must reflect exactly that and be targeted toward the types of roles you’d like to get. Don’t worry though, this blog will share all of the top tips and tricks to make sure your fashion CV is the best.
1. Only include what’s necessary
The number one key rule, only include the information that you need. Employers won’t spend lots of time searching for key details, so only include them and make sure they’re easy to read and locate. Whilst sections about your hobbies and interests do share some of your personality, it’s busying up your CV, making it harder to find the key details.
2. Include all of your skills
Make sure your CV is selling all of your skills, give examples, link them to previous experience and ensure they are relevant to the job. By doing this, you are showing them how your qualities fit the job, making you an ideal candidate.
3. Keep it simple
Your CV should be simple enough to read easily, it needs to be super clear as each job will have hundreds of applicants, so your CV will be up against them all. Potential employers won’t always have time to read it all, so make sure you have clear headings for each section. Saying that, your CV should also stand out; there needs to be something about yours that wasn’t like the last one hundred they have looked at.
4. Tailor it
Your CV should be tailored to each type of job or company. Or even better, for each application. Use keywords and any specific skills mentioned in the job advert, you want to match the criteria well. However, ensure you only write down the skills, qualities, and experiences you have, lying will catch you out in the long term. Specifically, fashion CVs can be more creative than most; think about colours and layout, particularly if they ask for a creative CV!
5. Check, check and check again!
Once you’ve completed your fashion CV make sure to proofread it a few times. A CV with spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors will not get you an interview. A top tip would be to read your writing out loud, or even get a friend or family member to take a look at it. A fresh pair of eyes can make all the difference.
