This is a big step in the right direction for H&M, as it is a part of the fast-fashion industry. H&M is trying to find ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the industry and is responding to the growth in demand from investors. The investors want more of a focus on sustainability and for businesses to take more responsibility for the environment.

The importance of sustainability in the fashion industry is growing. Sustainable fashion is not only to reduce the impact of the environment but also to be mindful of the employees that work in the fashion industry. By the fashion industry having more of a focus on sustainability it is simply to make the industry more ethical.

Fashion brands can break down fashion sustainability into four different areas.

Ethical Fashion:

This area covers the working environment and conditions, and Fair Trades practices.

Circular Fashion:

This includes recycling, upcycling, and thrifting materials and textiles.

Slow Fashion:

This is a long-term view of the fashion industry, it considers using the garments' whole lifecycle. This sometimes includes sharing and renting clothes.

Conscious Fashion:

This is a message a company shares with its consumers, encouraging them to be more aware of sustainability in the industry and to buy eco-friendly products.
