Job Description
Our client is a design and production to delivery supplier specialising in women’s, men’s and kid’s nightwear and loungewear. Based in London, they have a small, close knit team covering design, pattern cutting, technical, merchandising and finance and supply some of the top high street brands as well as smaller boutique brands.
Due to expansion, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Garment Technologist to work closely with the UK based team, customers and overseas factories in order to ensure the efficient production of all garments.
Garment Technologist - The Role:
• Manage the technical development of garments from initial prototype through to bulk production, ensuring products meet customer requirements, quality standards, and critical path deadlines.
• Liaise and communicate effectively with customers, factories, and internal teams through email, telephone, Microsoft teams and face-to-face meetings.
• Evaluate fit samples on mannequins and provide accurate fit assessments, approvals, and recommendations in line with customer expectations.
• Work closely with the Pattern Cutter to review and implement pattern amendments following fit sessions and customer feedback, ensuring efficient progression through the approval process.
• Prepare and maintain detailed technical specifications, garment workbooks, factory packs, and related documentation.
• Produce clear technical comments, measurements, and illustrations to support factory understanding and minimise production errors.
• Digitise and manage pattern files, ensuring accurate distribution to manufacturing partners.
• Act as the primary technical contact for factories, providing guidance and support on fit, construction, pattern, grading, and manufacturing issues.
• Manage the submission, review, and approval of garment testing reports, ensuring compliance with customer standards and relevant regulations.
• Take ownership of assigned customer accounts, providing technical expertise throughout the product development and production lifecycle.
• Ensure all products meet agreed quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable legislative and regulatory obligations.
• Review and approve garment measurements, workmanship, labels, tickets, barcodes, packaging, and other production components prior to manufacture.
• Identify and resolve technical issues proactively to support on-time delivery and continuous product improvement.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation throughout the product development process.
Garment Technologist - The Candidate:
• At least 8 years experience in a similar role
• Pattern cutting and garment construction knowledge
• Be able to amend minor changes on paper patterns yourself
• Knowledge and understanding of grade rules
• Experienced in liaising with customers directly and building a strong relationship
• Sound technical knowledge of different fabric bases
• Strong knowledge of measuring and fitting
• Strong computer literacy skills and knowledge of fit logs
• Organised with the ability to prioritise daily workloads
• Professional personality with confident communication skills
• Adaptable and flexible with the ability to work as both part of a team and on your own initiative.
• Experience of nightwear is preferable but not essential
