Job Description

Our client is a leading brand in the lingerie, swim and, more recently, sportswear market. They currently have an exciting opportunity within their Design team for a someone passionate about sports; a Technical Designer who understands and appreciates the intricacies and innovations within the category. 

Technical Designer - Ladies Sports - The Role:

  • Reporting to the Creative Director you will be responsible for seasonal creation of trend packages, to include moodboards, colour palettes and illustrations to help set the scene and direction for the brand.
  • Attend trade shows to stay updated with the latest technologies and trends from suppliers.
  • Work closely with suppliers to aid design direction and to develop exclusive fabrics, components and prints.
  • Actively lead, drive and monitor the conceptual development of innovative and directional product lines from CAD through to finished samples.
  • Work with the Technical team throughout the fit process to ensure the integrity of the design is maintained while considering fit and performance requirements, ensuring any changes are highlighted to the wider team.
  • Using knowledge of the industry, source and develop fabrics, trims, prints that represent the fit and feel of the brand. Identify any cost and minimum issues that may affect margin and production levels.
  • Develop professional relationships with suppliers, communicating professionally and clearly. Negotiate where needed to meet required price points.
  • Create detailed technical drawings, construction details and development packs.
  • Create detailed bill of materials and other relevant costing information for the factories, ensuring proposed products meet the agreed price points and achieve target margin.
  • Responsible for monitoring and prioritising workload in line with the Design Calendar and Business Critical Path. 
  • As part of the wider team, join the journey to make improvements with regards to sustainability. Sourcing sustainable qualities wherever possible.
  • Help to resolve any technical issues that arise during the production process. Effectively risk assess every style with garment and fabric tech teams to ensure all styles are suitable to proceed to production.
  • Performance sports testing for new and existing styles.

Technical Designer - Ladies Sports - The Candidate:

  • A passion for sports
  • Contour Fashion or relevant Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Expert knowledge in Excel, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Excellent presentation skills and strong ability to communicate ideas to the team and wider business when needed
