Job Description

 Our client designs and sources product via their global network of offices and suppliers; negotiating market leading prices; securing the fastest lead times and managing production to ensure fantastic product is safely delivered on time. They are now seeking a Fabric Technical Manager with broad experience across all fabric bases to join their busy team in Bangladesh. 

Fabric Technical Manager - The Role:

  • Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, you will ensure the quality, development and production of fabrics and finishes are as per the required standards and the end product performs to minimum specifications and is fit for purpose. Maintain accurate in-house testing reports and documentation throughout all stages of production.
  • Collaborate closely with the other Technical Manager, Fabric Technologists, Merchandisers, and cross-functional teams to ensure fabric procedures and systems are well understood and consistently followed.
  • Assist in conducting effective and consistent mill evaluations of all suppliers in alignment with necessary standards. Ensure that evaluation records are maintained and follow-up visits and corrective action plans are executed as needed. Report cases where suppliers cannot meet expectations.
  • Train fabric suppliers, including mills, laundries, printers, and garment vendors, in the correct submission procedures, minimum fabric performance standards, Restricted Substances requirements, and legislative requirements. Keep suppliers informed of any changes to these standards.
  • Assess the capabilities of machinery, costings, and fabric suppliers to determine whether requested fabrics and finishes are feasible within supplier capabilities.
  • Oversee the approval process for base fabrics, accurately documenting and recording exceptions in collaboration with both customers and suppliers.
  • Monitor bulk fabric performance in terms of handle, color, continuity, performance standards, and chemical compliance. Ensure that fabric delivered to garment vendors consistently meets pre-agreed quality standards.
  • Assist in effectively training fabric technologists in all aspects of technology required to support the business, including communication and auditing skills.
  • Oversee the management of 3rd party testing laboratories, the testing budget, and accreditation planning.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with UK Fabric Technologists and suppliers during development and pre-production stages. Support teams in communicating fabric-related issues and concerns to UK and the supply base.
  • Oversee color management processes from lab dip through to bulk production.
  • Ensure compliance with product safety legislation through training, auditing, and testing.
  • Ensure that main factories are maintaining and measuring the KPIs of the main fabric suppliers within a season.
  • Contribute to driving and managing the future autonomy through innovative approaches to fabric technology.
  • Respond to product queries, including complaints, from vendors and customers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Schedule annual mill, laundry, and print plant evaluations in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and China.
  • Collaborate with the UK Technical teams to manage care labelling for garments according to fabric performance and garment performance criteria.
  • Provide support to the Fabric Technology team in their daily tasks and mentor team members for their professional development.
  • Projects manage the on-boarding process for new suppliers, ensuring a seamless transition into the supply base.

Fabric Technical Manager - The candidate:

  • Degree level Certificate in Technical Textile Qualification and/or a minimum of 15 years work experience in a similar capacity. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Problem solving skills
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook) 
  • Proven experience in mentoring a cross-functional team 
  • Experience in Quality Compliance & Auditing Processes 
  • Previous experience in manufacturing & sourcing in the Asia region 
  •  In-depth knowledge of EU legislation and REACH compliance requirements
