Job Description

Our client is a multi award-winning textile manufacturer with a long heritage and a forward thinking approach to innovation and sustainability. They design and manufacture quality environmental fabrics for commercial, public transport and residential sectors. They are now seeing an experienced Textile Designer who is keen to work in their transport division. 

Textile Designer - the role:

  • Design and develop new technical performing transport products ensuring the business meets the ever-changing demands of the mass passenger transport market; with a focus on building a leading market position that creates disruption in the marketplace.
  • Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, ensuring new products are developed and tested in line with agreed critical path timelines.
  • Knowledge on fabric construction and technical performance to be used as a starting point for design work in order to create fit for purpose products.
  • Actively research future technologies and technical innovations, applying this research to new product developments.
  • Ensure that bought out products meet the performance requirements that are fit for purpose by working closely with Supply Chain, assisting with sourcing and maintaining business standards throughout the process.
  • Support and contribute to the development of the creative vision and direction by providing the relevant expertise and insight required.
  • Ensure that creativity, together with innovation, technical performance and environmental sustainability remains the focus of product introductions.
  • Work collaboratively with external companies who compliment and strengthen the product range and brand ethos when required.
  • Provide support by researching current trends and utilise this knowledge to be inspirational in expanding the scope of the brand and trend direction.
  • Carry out trend research (both design and technical) in order to identify new areas of core development and apply these global trends of fabric, colour, lifestyle, travel, aesthetics and technical innovations to new product developments. 
  • Show an understanding of the global textile market and make informed contributions that drive new product proposals.
  • Research and present trend directions (both design and technical) to the design team, customers and external collaborators as appropriate.  
  • Positively contribute to regular, inspiring idea sharing workshops with the Innovation and Technical team to cross fertilise ideas and to drive newness and innovations. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Innovation and Technical functions to translate high concept ideas into commercially viable product.
  • When requested attend relevant industry and networking events including customer meetings, events, exhibitions and sales conferences promoting the Brand, acting as the keeper of the brands’ relevance, aesthetics and values.
  • Make valuable contributions to all design / creative meetings.
  • Produce physical mood boards / digital presentations to inspire our customers in order to support growth.
  • Assist on the creative styling of exhibitions and showroom spaces.
  • Contribute to the development of design “stories” for core development.
  • Produce visual ideas for social media -  grid posts, reels and stories, with focus on Instagram and LinkedIn. 
  • Input into brainstorms on marketing material and merchandising, focused on elevating the brand and inspiring our customers.

Textile Designer - the candidate:

  • Between two and three years relevant professional experience, ideally in the carpet industry / mass passenger transportation industry with a track record and portfolio of creating both custom made and bespoke designs.
  • Knowledge of moquette would be ideal.
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, eg textile design, print design, surface / pattern design, or proven and demonstrable professional experience.
  • Excellent technical textile design skills.
  • Confidence in Nedgraphics, Scotweave, Adobe packages, PowerPoint and Microsoft packages.
  • Creative flair for design and colour with excellent technical textile knowledge. 
  • Excellent conceptual skills to work up ideas and be energetic about presenting ideas and concepts to customers, both existing and new.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently with passion and drive whilst demonstrating high levels of resilience and energy.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate new technical solutions and creativity, whilst assessing its commerciality. 
  • Have a desire to be the best in everything you do with an ability to create a positive and inspiring culture. 
  • Hands on/can do attitude to resolving issues.
  • Excellent verbal, written and platform communication skills both internally and externally.
  • Skilled at working with cross-functional teams, project management and product development, often managing multiple projects simultaneously and with tight deadlines for project completion. 
  • Drive and energy with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Valid Passport.
